MP Bachrach’s statement on binding arbitration for port workers

PRINCE RUPERT– Today, Labour Minister Steve MacKinnon intervened to end the work stoppages at ports in BC including Vancouver, Nanaimo and Prince Rupert. The Minister directed the Canada Industrial Relations Board to enact binding arbitration and resumption of port operations. This comes after the BC Maritime Employers Association locked out the workers last week.

“First they did it to the rail workers. Now to the port workers,” says Bachrach. “The right to bargain collectively is protected by the constitution. If the Trudeau Liberals are so quick to force an end to lockouts, what incentive would any company have to negotiate with its workers?”
