Bachrach brings local Indigenous entrepreneur to testify in Parliament on Indigenous procurement
OTTAWA– On Thursday, MP Taylor Bachrach (Skeena-Bulkley Valley) invited Jacob Beaton, co-founder of the Tea Creek Farm training program in Kitwanga to testify before the Government Operations Committee as part of hearings on the government’s Indigenous procurement practices.
“I’m pleased Jacob was able to share his wide range of expertise with the committee,” said Bachrach. “Tea Creek's impact on our region cannot be overstated and Jacob's insights on Indigenous procurement are extremely relevant to the committee's work.
During his presentation and in answer to MPs' questions, Beaton shared the importance of the procurement process being "by Indigenous for Indigenous." He also discussed the systemic economic barriers Indigenous communities face, and proposed solutions to current problems with the federal government’s Indigenous procurement system.
