Creating A Red Dress Alert
The issue of murdered and missing Indigenous women
and girls and LGBTQIA+ people has had a deep impact on
families and communities in our region. A Red Dress Alert
(similar to an Amber Alert) would help ensure that when a
family’s loved one goes missing, there is a better chance of
them being found.
My colleague Leah Gazan from Winnipeg successfully passed a motion
in Parliament calling for a Red Dress Alert. The government has also
included mention in the recent budget. We are going to keep pushing
until an alert system is in place for all regions of the country.
